•DND has the largest real property portfolio in the Canadian Government including 2 million hectares of land, close to 21,000 buildings, over 10 million square meters of floor space and 18,000 works? That’s everything from buildings to parking lots, research to recreational facilities, runways to jetties! (Lots of variety!)

•Real Property Operations supports maintenance, repair, minor and major new construction of these varied works in compliance with DND, provincial, municipal, CADD and geographical information systems (GIS) standards and codes? All while keeping sustainable development and green initiatives in mind. (Professional and forward thinking!)

•Draftspersons read and study existing documentation, visit project sites personally to gather information, and prepare drawings, drafts of reports, and cost estimates in conjunction with architects, engineers, and technical staff? (Important part of a busy team!)

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill current and future vacancies in various locations with various employment tenures and language profiles within the Department of National Defence.
There are 2 (permanent, full time, English essential) positions immediately available in:
• Shilo, Manitoba

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
• A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).

Note:
1. The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
o A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
o An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates who meet both of the following criteria must always be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
a. Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b. Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the DD classification.

The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement. Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the DD classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in providing support for building or municipal systems development, including building code interpretation, the production of technical drawings, as-built drawings or graphics using a Computerized Aided Drafting (CAD) design software.
• Experience in drafting techniques utilized to develop client ideas and requirements into conceptual drawings or sketches.
• Experience in a variety of software applications including file management applications and Microsoft Office Suite.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
• Vocational diploma in drafting or college diploma related to buildings or public works or Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in the production of technical drawings, as-built drawings or graphics using Autodesk design software.

ABILITIES:
• Ability to demonstrate and explain how to operate CAD and related equipment and software to new employees and colleagues.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willing and able to work overtime and to travel.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DND 404 military driver’s license.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations.
