NRCan seeks a graduate student hire in the space of materials science. The project focuses on developing advanced models and computational tools for investigating hydrogen effects on fracture toughness of pipeline steels. The successful applicant will be responsible for data preparation, coding and working with researchers to develop numerical models characterizing the interactions of hydrogen and steel materials under different hydrogen charging and pipeline operation conditions.

Education:
Students enrolled or able to enroll in a program at McGill University (proof will be required before the start date) with specialization in Materials Science and Engineering.
Experience:
- Have demonstrated through experience or work product, a capability to conduct research in materials science and develop numerical models.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical testing techniques.
In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and/or experience in steel materials and fracture toughness testing.
- Knowledge and/or experience in modeling hydrogen diffusion and/or hydrogen embrittlement in metals.
Competencies:
- Competence in programming with Python or R languages.
