Duties

In the conservation treatment laboratories, we work with clients to contribute to the knowledge, the accessibility and the sustainability of their collections over time. We are a dynamic and creative multidisciplinary team of conservators that develops innovative solutions, tools and approaches to treat and preserve collections objects.

Through the Emerging Professionals Program and with guidance from senior staff the Junior Conservator will:
• carry out conservation treatments on objects.
• conduct research on topics related to heritage conservation.
• provide technical advice on behalf of the Canadian Conservation Institute.

During the employment, the incumbent will have the opportunity to work on an important piece of Chinese heritage.

Work environment

Working at the Canadian Conservation Institute means:

• Collaborating with a team of conservation professionals in conservation treatment, preventive conservation and conservation science.
• Collaborating with specialists in publications, communications and training.
• Working with clients primarily with heritage professionals and institutions, such as museums, libraries, archives, and cultural centres in Canada.
• Maintaining close connections with organizations and colleagues from around the world to collaborate on research projects or to share their knowledge at professional conferences.

This position is subject to the hybrid work model. In general, the employee appointed to this position should expect to work a minimum of two days per week from our office, which is located at 1030 Innes Road, Ottawa.

1. Diploma from a post-secondary institution in the conservation field or a combination of education, experience and training.

Acceptable combination means a high school diploma in combination with a few years of relevant work experience and professional development courses related to the job's duties.

Degree equivalency

1. Experience in objects conservation treatment.

The experience may have been acquired through professional work, academic studies or volunteer or extracurricular activities.

4. Experience in conservation of Asian lacquer.

6. Experience working with or within Chinese communities or organizations.
