Duties

Given the breadth of the research undertaken at the Research and Development Centre (RDC), the incumbent will provide general and technical support at an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research centre, including all or part of the following duties:
• Contributing to the development of analytical methods and evaluation techniques.
• Contributing to sample collection and data analysis.
• Providing support for research activities in the laboratory or in the field as part of research programs.
• Helping maintain the research equipment.

Work environment

The Quebec City Research and Development Centre focuses its research on the management and conservation of soil-water-air resources in agriculture, plant breeding, precision agriculture and the management of field and forage crops, in a context of sustainable agriculture. Research activities are carried out in the laboratory, on experimental plots on a research farm and at associated farm businesses.

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a college (CEGEP), bachelor's or master’s program in a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in:

Agricultural Science;
Plant Science;
Biology;
Bioecology Techniques;
Biotechnology;
Chemistry;
Microbiology;
Environmental Science;
Environmental Technology;
Hydrology;
Natural Resources;
Soil Science;
Data Analysis;
A related science program or other related areas.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and the student must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in conducting experiments in the laboratory or in the field.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment and, therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.

Possession of a valid Quebec Class 5 driver’s license or provincial/territorial equivalent.
Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication, so that they do not impinge on the duties of the position.
Ability and willingness to work in a laboratory environment, in a greenhouse or in the field for extended periods of time with appropriate safety precautions in place.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors under variable weather conditions and to be exposed to stinging insects.
Ability and willingness to be in contact with hazardous materials with normal safety precautions in place.
