📌 To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, candidates must meet the following criteria:

▶ Be recognized as having full-time PhD student status by a Canadian post-secondary academic institution at which you are currently enrolled. (Proof will be required).
▶ Be the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located.

Duties

◾ The student is expected to contribute to research that will help to quantifying carbon impacts of land-use change and management of urban ecosystems in Canada. Duties and responsibilities include using machine learning algorithms, segmentation, and remote sensing products for mapping urban land-use change and management to support the development of operational map products.

◾ Limited travel may be involved.

◾ The project will open opportunities for student to contribute to greenhouse monitoring and reporting, work with a team of experts in geosciences, land use change and agroforestry.

Work environment

➡ The student will work with the pollutant, inventory and reporting division of Environment and Climate Change Canada to support critical research on greenhouse gas emissions and removals as a result of management and land-use change of urban environments.

📌 Candidates must clearly explain in detail how they meet the essential education and experience qualifications by indicating HOW (clearly explain your duties), WHEN and for HOW LONG (date and length of time in months or years), and WHERE (employer and geographic location) this experience was acquired. 📚EDUCATION:
The student must be currently enrolled or able to enroll in a PhD program in the Geography or Environmental Management department with specialization in remote sensing at the University of Waterloo, by December 1, 2023.

Degree equivalency

💻EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience* in using geospatial analysis tools in FME and ArcGIS required.
2. Experience* in processing ariel photography with QGIS and ERDAS required.
3. Experience* in using R Software, and Python and Jupyter notebooks required.
4. Experience* in remote sensing techniques, image analysis and classification algorithms required.
5. Experience* in UAVs flights and communications is required.
6. Experience* with eCognition software and segmentation is required.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
