OBJECTIVES
The China Research Fellowship aims to deepen the Government of Canada’s understanding of China, and to foster the development of a next generation of Canadian policy makers and specialists who will be at the forefront in government, business, education and civil society.
DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be integrated into the Centre for China Policy Research at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) as a full-time senior analyst and will contribute knowledge to the area of China’s internal and international policies and policy drivers, and their impact on Canada-China relations through in-depth analysis and research.
Through this process, we are seeking an early-career post-doctoral fellow who wishes to pursue a career path bridging academia and policy making and is looking to contribute directly to informed and forward-looking China policies and responses.
The position is a twelve-month early career assignment with a salary based on relevant academic and work experience. Compensation may include contribution to statutory benefits (e.g. Employment Insurance).

EDUCATION
- Applicants must be residing in Canada or Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have completed PhD Studies at a recognized institution of higher learning in any of the following areas: Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, History, Economics or a related program, and who have completed a thesis related to the fields mentioned above which include a China specialty.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in preparation and publication of manuscripts
COMPETENCIES
- Excellent oral, technical written and interpersonal communication skills in English or French
ABILITIES
- Ability to take guided initiative and to work in an organized fashion within a fast-paced environment, including flexibility in shifting between independent and collaborative work and demonstrate collegiality and professionalism.
