This position involves laboratory work, which requires excellent knowledge of chemistry (safety, product compatibility, WHMIS, solution preparation, etc.) and microbiological analyses (counting mycorrhizal fungal spores, quantifying root colonization, etc.). The candidate will interact with researchers from a variety of disciplines related to soil science, including (but not limited to) phytopathology, nematology, agroecology and virology. The research centre is located in Saint Jean sur Richelieu in southern Quebec, approximately 40 minutes south of Montreal.

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a master’s program at a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in biology.
Note: The candidate must be registered as a full-time student at the academic institution in which they are currently enrolled or be awaiting acceptance or be in the process of applying. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to the start date, and the student must be returning to full-time studies for their next academic term.
Experience:
Experience* counting mycorrhizal propagules in soils.
Experience* in spectroscopy.
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of the R programming language.
Abilities:
Ability to cultivate micro-organisms (fungi and bacteria) and maintain a microbial culture bank without supervision.
Ability to communicate in writing and orally to present research results through (i) reports or peer reviewed articles and (ii) oral presentations at national or international conferences.
