Duties

Supervision, coordination and provision of administrative, financial and operational support service to police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Detachment, and front counter/telephone services and information to the general public.

Work environment

The Yellowknife RCMP Detachment is looking for motivated and industrious individuals to be a part of a team of support personnel who directly impact the public and regular members who work in frontline policing.

You will become part of a dynamic group of Public Servants who are responsible for work in areas such as police records, customer service, procurement, finance and a host of other support tasks at an RCMP detachment.

Detachment Service Supervisor positions require the ability to think things through to problem solve, anticipate needs, stay current with applicable policies and procedures as well as be adaptable in an ever-changing work environment. There are many distractions within an RCMP Detachment and candidates must be versatile and able to manage multiple tasks at once, with the understanding that constant interruptions throughout the day will be unavoidable.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) permanent position in Yellowknife, NT.

A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff future vacancies on a permanent and/or temporary basis.

• A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

• Experience providing administrative support services* to a team or a manager.
• Experience providing advice and/or recommendations on administrative practices.
• Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.

*Administrative support services could include duties such as managing someone else’s daily schedule, planning and/or coordinating meetings, preparing and/or coordinating incoming/outgoing correspondence, maintaining electronic and hard copy file systems, taking meeting minutes, etc.

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience providing administrative, financial and/or operational support in a police environment.
• Experience interpreting policies or procedures.
• Experience in employee supervision, including assigning work, scheduling and monitoring performance.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation.
• Willingness and ability to maintain a valid class 5 driver's license.
