Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this poster is to fill one (1) position.

The results of this process may be used to staff same or similar English Essential positions with various tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) and various security clearance levels within Indigenous Services Canada.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.

*Recognized post-secondary institution: Public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.

EXPERIENCE
EXP 1 - Recent* and Significant** experience in providing one (1) or more of the following:

1. Primary Care; or
2. Urgent or Emergency or Acute Care; or
3. Community health Nursing in Remote and Isolated communities

Recent* is defined as within the last five (5) years
Significant** is defined as at least two (2) years’ experience with performing complex activities related to this task in a wide variety of situations.

EXP 2 - Experience in working within multi-disciplinary teams, specifically providing delegation to regulated and unregulated health care providers.

EXP 3 - Experience in providing health care services to Indigenous people and/or Indigenous communities taking into consideration Indigenous histories, colonialism and determinants of health.

EXP 4 - Experience in mentoring (preceptoring) adult learners, including providing positive and negative feedback.

EXP 5 - Experience utilizing technology in one or more of the following to:
-Follow up, instruct and assess nursing practice; or
-develop learning materials; or
-lead learning sessions

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required

Willingness and ability to travel in small aircraft, off road vehicles and by boat in varied weather conditions to communities in remote and isolated areas, as required.

Valid driver’s licence or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver’s license.

Willingness and ability to travel to deliver multiple orientation sessions for new hires in Sioux Lookout, ON. At a minimum there are six (6) orientations per year. The Practice Consultant may be expected to travel and stay in Sioux Lookout, ON and/or a remote community for 3 weeks at time.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

A valid license to practice nursing in the province of Ontario with a CNO designation of Entitled to Practice.

Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position

Willingness and ability to travel to deliver multiple orientation sessions for new hires in Sioux Lookout, ON. At a minimum there are six (6) orientations per year. The Practice Consultant may be expected to travel and stay in Sioux Lookout, ON and/or a remote community for 3 weeks at time.

Medical Clearance
i) PRE-PLACEMENT: Category 1 health evaluation

ii) Agree to undertake a Category 3 pre-placement periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (https://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=12561&section=HTML)

iii) For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: a valid Category 1 medical clearance for their dependent(s) in accordance with section 4.2 of the Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive and Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (http://www.njc-cnm.gc.ca/directive/index.php?hl=1&lang=eng&merge=3&did=4&vid=12&pv=1 )

iv) For persons proposed for relocation to an isolated post/remote location and who have dependents: consent to their dependent(s) to undertake a Category 1 periodic health evaluation in accordance with Appendix A of the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard Schedule (https://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/(S(5xos1g45ufdaaz45lxatyqms))/doc-eng.aspx?id=32632&section=html)
