CANDIDATE QUESTIONNAIRE
Candidates will receive an email invitation to complete an online Correctional Officer I Candidate Questionnaire via Survey Monkey within three weeks of submitting an application. If you have not received the invitation, please check your JUNK/SPAM folder and ensure your email system accepts these types of emails. Failure to complete the questionnaire by the due date will result in your elimination from this selection process.

Candidates who have passed all stages of evaluation and who are selected must complete the Correctional Training Program (CTP), which includes two (2) online training phases and a 14-week in residence training phase at the CSC Training Academy in Kingston, ON, Summerside, PEI or another training site.

ALLOWANCE FOR RECRUITS (TRAINEES)
Correctional Service of Canada recruits receive an allowance of $400/week, up to a maximum of $5,600 for 14 weeks, during Stage 3 of the Correctional Training Program. This allowance, paid bi-weekly, is in addition to the room and board fees already covered for recruits at this same stage of CTP.

Indigenous candidates may be eligible for additional funding through an Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ISET) stakeholder. REAPPLICATION
You will not be assessed more than once in the same selection process.

If you want to reapply for the position of a Correctional Officer I, the retest period is 180 days from the date of elimination at either the written exam or interview/reference stage.

If you have also applied or are thinking of applying for Primary Worker/Kimisinaw and/or Correctional Officer II Healing Lodge, please note that some parts of the assessment process (like medical evaluation, security clearance, psychological assessment) are the same for all three selection processes; as such the results and related waiting periods would also apply to those selection processes.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma (high school), or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission (PSC) test* approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or successful completion of a provincially/territorially approved secondary school equivalency test.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
The candidate must obtain and maintain a valid Standard First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) 'Level C' with automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate from a qualified provider approved by any province/territory in Canada, and in accordance with Part XVI of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with ethnocultural or Indigenous peoples, communities or organizations.

ABILITY:

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must be able to work shifts, variable hours, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Employees may be required to work overtime.

DRIVER'S LICENSE:
Prior to appointment, candidate must possess a valid unrestricted* driver's license that conforms to provincial or territorial requirements. As a condition of employment, candidate must maintain valid unrestricted driver's license throughout employment.

*Restrictions include, but is not limited to, situations where the driver requires a supervising passenger, number of passengers restriction, time of day restrictions, highway restrictions, medical restrictions, ignition control equipment restrictions.

For the province of Quebec: Possess a valid Class 4A driver’s license (Emergency Vehicle) granted by the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).

MEDICAL:
The candidate must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.

PSYCHOLOGICAL:
The candidate must also meet the psychological requirements determined by Correctional Service of Canada.

Please note that if you have previously participated in a Correctional Officer I selection process with the Correctional Service of Canada, your results may be applied to the current selection process. This will be confirmed during the assessment stage of the selection process. You are required to submit an application to this selection process to be considered for further assessment.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
