Duties

The student will work on meat waste in the home. The work will be undertaken as a part of a larger project aimed at identifying post-slaughter meat waste streams of which recent literature has suggested that the home is a significant contributor. The student will develop and validate a method to determine the volume and type of meat waste generated in the home. They will assist in the request for ethics approval of the method and once attained, the student will recruit consumers to undertake the method in their homes. Collaborators on the project based at other centres will also recruit consumers. The student will collect and compile the data from their consumers and from the collaborators, and will undertake statistical analyses on the data. At least 90 consumers will be surveyed.

Education:
Currently enrolled or willing to enroll by the date of appointment in a Master’s program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in Consumer or Sensory Science.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experiences:
Experience* in using research methods and procedures, including reviewing literature.
Experience* in survey design and data collection and basic statistical analysis.
Experience* in quantitative and qualitative data analysis as it relates to consumer research.
Experience* in science communication and report writing.
Experience* in food processing, food chemistry, food analysis and/or sensory evaluation.
Experience* in conducting research with consumers.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
