Duties

The positions within the team will be focused on analysing the mining industry and providing strategic industry insights to government officials on issues related to the minerals and metals industry. Candidates will have impactful opportunities to prepare analysis on mining industry activities and trends, commodity markets, global supply chains, resource security, and environmental impacts. Additionally, the roles require engaging with industry stakeholders, such as mining companies, advising government officials on issues relating to the mining industries, and supporting the development of Government of Canada policies and regulations for the minerals and metals industry.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) EC-05 and two (2) EC-06 positions.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar EC-05 and EC-06 positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual Imperative or Non-Imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC,CCC/CCC, etc.), locations and conditions of employment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Economics, Sociology or Statistics.

Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for areas of specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience* working in the mining and minerals industry (i.e. government or academia do not qualify)
* Experience is defined as the depth and breadth of the experience acquired over a period of at least two (2) years

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in metallurgical engineering, materials science/engineering (with minerals focus), chemical engineering (with mineral focus), geology, geophysics, mining engineering or a field related to the position.
• A Masters or PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution, in a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

• Experience in smelting, refining and metallurgy.

Operational Requirements:
• Willingness and ability to travel.
• Willingness and ability to work additional hours, when required.
