Important messages

Did you know that our department is one of Canada's top 100 employers?

There are many reasons why ESDC is a great place to work! Our employees deliver a range of programs and services that support Canadians throughout their lives. See for yourself on how we help Canadians:
https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/programs/results/stories.html

The Federal Public Service is stronger and most effective when we reflect the diversity of the Canadian population we serve. Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) is dedicated to building and promoting a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce, representative of Canadian society. All candidates who believe they are qualified are encouraged to apply, including Black, other racialized and Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and persons of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

Our selection/hiring committees are diverse and consist of representatives from various departments.

We conduct regular training sessions for our hiring team to raise awareness of biases and barriers and how to mitigate them.

We accommodate reasonable requests with respect to assessment methods and scheduling of assessments.

We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request special accommodation. We are recruiting for a number of positions where you will have the opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge of the department.

Here are just some examples of the potential opportunities and duties:

CR 03 Passport Clerk
CR 03 Mail and Office Services Clerk
CR 03 Support Clerk

CR 04 Administrative Support Assistant
CR 04 Program & Services Delivery Clerk
CR 04 General Support Clerk

Duties:
Respond to telephone, in person or electronic enquiries.
Assist with administrative procedures.
Provide general information to staff, clients, and the public.

Training will be provided for all positions. You may be given the opportunity to perform various duties within a CR-03 and/or CR-04 role depending on operational needs.

Work environment

The federal public service is transitioning to a common hybrid work model that supports sharing in-person experiences that are essential to cohesive, collaborative and high-performing organization while continuing to provide flexibility to support offsite work. At an individual level, this is captured in annually reviewed work arrangements with the on-going objective to balance operational requirements with employee individual circumstances and work preference.

In the context of Employment and Social Development Canada’s mandate, most positions are identified as either onsite or hybrid (combination of onsite and offsite work). At ESDC, employees who fall within the hybrid work category report onsite a minimum of two days per week (40% of their regular work schedule), as determined by operational requirements. Prior to appointment, the hiring manager will discuss with the successful candidate(s) the options and/or specifics as it pertains to the work arrangement.

Intent of the process

We intend to create a pool of qualified Employment Equity candidates at the CR-03/ CR-04 level to staff casual and/or term positions within Employment and Social Development Canada in the designated locations listed through this job advertisement. While we initially hire on a casual and/or term basis, we are committed to investing in employees and these opportunities can lead to permanent employment.

In order to manage the number of applications in this selection process, management may apply top-down and/or random selection at any stage throughout the process.
