The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

The intent of this process is to identify qualified candidates for current and anticipatory staffing needs for Finance Specialist positions in the locations identified on this job advertisement for the Correctional Service of Canada.
Staffing needs include permanent, temporary (term) and casual (maximum 90 working days in a calendar year) employment opportunities.

◾ ASSET QUALIFICATIONS ◾
EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics
• Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics
• Completion of at least one accounting course at the post-secondary level from a recognized post-secondary institution
EXPERIENCE
• Experience in using computers and software including a computerized financial management system*, word processing and spreadsheet programs
*Financial management systems could include SIGMA, SAP, Oracle, and/or IFMMS (Integrated Financial and Materiel Management System)
• Experience in providing advice, guidance and information to clients in a client service environment
• Experience reconciling accounts
• Experience using the inmate accounting system

SELECTION PROCESS STAGES
This selection process has three stages:
Stage 1 - Screening
The applications will be reviewed (screened), specifically the responses to the six (6) questions imbedded in this job advertisement.
Note: Candidate responses to the asset education qualifications may be reviewed at this stage.
Stage 2 - Interview
Interviews, anticipated to commence in Fall 2023, may be completed in person or by Microsoft (MS) Teams.
Stage 3- Reference Checks
Two references will be requested during stage 2.
For this selection process, it is our intention to communicate with candidates via email for screening and assessment purposes. This will include communication of results and invitations to interviews. To that end, candidates must include a valid email address in their application. Candidates must meet all of the essential qualifications noted in the Statement of Merit Criteria to be appointed to a position. A candidate may be appointed to a position even though they do not meet any or all of the asset qualifications or operational requirements. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
