Duties

Under the supervision of a research scientist, the student will conduct scientific experiments and other laboratory work, analyze data, write reports and manuscripts.

Work environment

The lab is located at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, London Research and Development Centre, London, Ontario. The incumbent will be working with a plant molecular biology/genetics team on a project aimed at optimizing and characterizing molecular factors that contribute to plant development, nutritional quality and plant responses to the environment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a Master’s program at an accredited post-secondary university in the following specialization:

-Plant molecular biology

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term. The student should meet the eligibility requirements to enroll in the graduate program at the University of Western Ontario.

Degree equivalency

Experience*:
• Experience conducting scientific research in a research laboratory setting, including extraction and analysis of nucleic acids.
• Experience in conducting bioinformatics analyses of scientific data.
• Experience handling experimental plants.

* In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience and volunteer activities.

Ability and willingness to control allergies, through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication without impinging on the duties to be performed.
