Duties

Under the supervision of a research scientist, the student will conduct scientific experiments and other laboratory work, perform data analyses, write reports and manuscripts, and write a thesis, including scientific research background, methodology, results obtained and discussion.

Work environment

The lab is located in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, London Research and Development Centre, London, Ontario. The graduate student will be working with a plant molecular biology/genomics team on projects aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms underlining plant nutrient acquisition and adaptation to climate change.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a PhD program with specialization in plant biology.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. Students should meet eligibility requirements to enroll at the University of Western Ontario. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in plant bioinformatics, R programming, scientific writing and publication.
Experience* in nucleic acid extraction, gene cloning, qRT-PCR and histochemistry.
Experience* in analyzing next generation sequencing data, including DEGs (Differentially Expressed Genes), gene ontology and gene enrichment.
Experience* in Lotus japonicus transformation.

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
