Duties

The Facility Manager (FM) will work out of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Brandon Research and Development Centre and is responsible for maintaining facilities (including complex laboratory facilities, offices, greenhouses, general maintenance and storage buildings, grounds, assets in satellite locations). The FM position is responsible for overseeing and supervising the work of the facilities team.

The Facility Manager is responsible for the management and administration of legislative inspections; preventative maintenance programs; facility related work order system; health and safety and security issues and life cycle management practices of building systems and equipment. The Facility Manager prepares, implements and/or oversees service contracts and provides input on maintenance budgets including identifying areas for cost or energy reductions and replacement or upgrades.

Work environment

As one of 20 research sites in Canada, the Brandon Research & Development Centre (BRDC) is located in Brandon, Manitoba. The Brandon site is responsible for conducting various agricultural research studies for the Government of Canada. This position oversees and manages a staff of five (5) other employees to support the research by ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure are maintained in accordance with regulated maintenance and codes as well by meeting the requirements of the research programs at the Brandon Research & Development Centre.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Significant* experience in managing a team (such as managing direct reports, performance evaluations and recruitment).
• Significant* experience in maintaining commercial infrastructure, properties or facilities including maintaining building mechanical systems.
• Experience planning, coordinating and/or overseeing professional construction or renovation projects that involve a number of trades.
• Experience planning, scheduling and coordinating the work of service providers responsible for operations and/or maintenance activities.
• Experience operating computerized Building control systems.

*Significant experience is considered to be continuous employment for three (3) years in these fields or areas within the last ten (10) years.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• Relevant provincial trade certification and/or red seal certification in a recognized relevant trade.
• Certificate or degree with respect to mechanical building systems and/or controls.

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience providing facility management services in any of the following environments: scientific research environment; government building, large medical facility, large commercial building, large industrial buildings.
• Experience in managing third party contracts.
