Duties

Duties:
Under the supervision of a research scientist, the student will conduct scientific experiments and other laboratory work, analyze data, write reports and manuscripts, and write a thesis including scientific research background, methodology, results obtained and discussion.

Work environment

Work Environment:
The lab is located at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, London Research and Development Centre, London, Ontario. The incumbent will be working with a plant molecular biology/genetics/metabolism team on projects aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms underlining plant development, nutritional quality and plant responses to the environment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education*:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a PhD program at an accredited post-secondary university with specialization in:
- Plant molecular biology

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term. The student should meet the eligibility requirements to enroll at the University of Western Ontario.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* conducting research in plant molecular biology (examples include: gene cloning, vector construction and modification, genetic transformation)
Experience* in conducting bioinformatics and statistical analyses of scientific research data
Experience* writing research articles

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
