Duties

Carrying out energy modeling and analysis for the application of various combinations of technologies in housing or buildings to supports industry in making more informed decisions.
Developing rationales and value propositions for low energy and low carbon home or building designs.
Developing technical analysis and materials that informs the development of workshops, forums, guides, and tools.

This position is located at the Bells Corners Complex, situated within Ottawa’s Greenbelt, yet close to restaurants and shopping within the area of Bells Corners. Situated between Nepean and Kanata, we are close to the Bayshore bus station as well as the Eagleson/Terry Fox Park and Ride with bus access to the Complex. This location also features trails and walking paths as well as workplace wellness programs including running, fitness and mental health initiatives to boost employee morale and work/life balance.

Education:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

Experience applying building science principles to housing, multi-unit residential housing, or building design or renovation.
Experience in housing or building energy analysis including the use of energy simulation tools.

Occupational Certification:

Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada.

Operational Requirements:

Willing and able to undertake job-related travel.
Willing and able to work overtime.
Willing and able to wear safety equipment to avoid hazards associated with research projects.

Knowledge of building science and its impact on providing effective and energy efficient buildings or housing.
Knowledge of the construction industry including its current capabilities, practices and limitations.
Knowledge of emerging technologies in multi-unit residential housing, buildings and homes, with regards to energy saving and renewable technologies.
Knowledge of the technical and business factors related to successfully bringing new technologies to the housing or building market, including related barriers and ways of overcoming them.

Abilities:

Ability to manage projects and associated resources.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
