The student will receive $21,000 per year, in three equal instalments.

Duties

The student will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on the application of artificial intelligence methods to geophysical problems as part of the Geological Survey of Canada's GeoNorth program.The student will be in charge of data preparation and labeling for the implementation of classical machine learning algorithms. The student will also apply variational autoencoder methods on the dataset to test generative models with autoencoder and decoder networks. The potential application of the approach to mineralized zones in northern Quebec will be assessed by the student. For this validation stage, geological characteristics and similarities between known mineralized sites will be studied to assess the capacity of the trained networks.

• The candidate must have a university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent), with a specialization in earth sciences, geophysics and/or artificial intelligence.

Degree equivalency

Essential Experience:
• The candidate must have expertise in earth sciences;
• The candidate must have expertise in programming.
