Duties

The production centre is responsible for printing, inserting and distributing checks on behalf of the Receiver General for Canada. Our checks are delivered all over the world. Our clients are both internal to the federal government and external at the national and provincial levels. Our work environment compares to a factory with noise, dust, handling of paper. Work is under pressure and deadlines are sometimes tight. The job is to operate the printers and inserters. Training is given on site.

The main duties of the Print / Insertion Operator are as follows:

1. Use of printing machinery and inserting equipment intended for the production of documents.

2. Plan its production in accordance with the priorities established.

3. Follow all specific work instructions related to each product.

4. Perform general maintenance of machinery and production equipment.

5. Participate in team meetings and group discussions in order to improve the work process.

6. The work is done in an industrial environment where printing equipment noise and high speed of insertion is frequent.

7. Requirement to wear the appropriate protection equipment at all times.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Public Services and Procurement Canada in the Quebec Region whose tenure and status could vary depending on the position to be staffed (indeterminate, determinate, casual - full or part time, as and when required/on call). This inventory could be used during the year to fill additional positions.

Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent will be considered for deployment. If no deployment is made, applicants from other groups and levels will be considered in the advertised appointment process.

The intent of this process is to hire a Print / Insertion Operator who will work on a shift schedule on site, at our facilities located in Quebec City. Shifts are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (on rotation).

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of two (2) years of secondary school;
OR
An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

1. Experience in an industrial environment (noisy and dusty environment, wear CSA-approved footwear and any other personal protective equipment (PPE) required).

2. Experience working under pressure with tight deadlines.

3. Experience in team work.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Be willing and able to bend down, to lift and transport items weighing up to 10 kg, and to safely use warehouse equipment.
- Be willing to rotate from one section of production to the other.
- Be willing to work in a noisy environment.

- Be willing and able to work in a dusty environment.
- Be willing and available to work shifts (day and night).
- Be willing and able to do overtime, as needed.
