The Real Property Safety and Security group within Fisheries and Oceans Canada manages and maintains a wide variety of infrastructure that supports various programs geared towards providing sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, safe waterways and the protection of Canada’s oceans and aquatic systems. Part of the Real Property group includes the Technical Support team that is responsible for providing technical oversight, engineering support and project management for the operations, maintenance, replacement and installation of the Fisheries and Oceans Canada assets and infrastructure. These assets include hatcheries, fishways, coast guard bases, science facilities, search and rescue stations, light stations and field camps. These sites and assets are at times located in remote coastal environments that require travel via small boats and helicopters.
The work requirements for this position involve project management, human and financial resource management, engineering oversight, capital project planning and contract management. The senior project engineer position will report to an engineering manager and have several direct reports being project engineers and or engineering technicians. They will work alongside other senior project engineers and within a technical support team that includes a variety of engineering backgrounds and disciplines.
The pool of successful candidates may be used to staff similar positions of various tenures within Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Education
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
• Eligible for certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering speciality relevant to the position.
Experience
• *Recent and Significant engineering experience pertaining to infrastructure projects in one or more of the following:
-project planning and design;
-project management and contract administration;
-project construction and inspections.
• Minimum 3 years experience in working in a multidisciplinary environment related to design and construction projects for mechanical, electrical, civil, municipal or marine infrastructure. Experience to include involvement in engineering design, construction drawing and specification development, cost estimating, or tender package development.
• Minimum 2 years experience in contract management related to infrastructure upgrade projects.
*Recent and Significant is defined as having the depth and breadth of the experience over a period of 5 years within the last 8 years
Knowledge

Conditions of Employment
• Possession of a valid driver's licence, or mobility to the degree normally associated with possession of a driver's licence, within the limits of the Treasury Board Travel Policy.
• Willing and able to conduct frequent visits to remote construction sites.
• Willing and able to travel to remote locations in small crafts or helicopters.
• Willing and able to be exposed to extreme and challenging environmental and safety conditions.
