BEFORE applying, the candidates must verify with their academic supervisor or department head that they will be authorized by their university to conduct their research residency in an off-campus laboratory. Arrangements may be required by the sponsoring university in accordance with the rules and regulations of the academic program.
The research assistant will conduct laboratory research under the supervision of an ERHSD research scientist. The research will be aligned with the mandate and the priorities of ERHSD and will contribute to the candidate’s completion of a Doctorate at a recognised post-secondary institution.
The Environmental and Radiation Health Sciences Directorate (ERHSD) at Health Canada
investigates the relationships between environmental exposures and adverse health impacts.
ERHSD provides scientific data and advice to the Department of Health, other government
departments, the provinces, and to the public. In addition to conducting research, the scientists and professionals of ERHSD support the development of policies, regulations, standards, and guidelines for health protection, and contribute to the analysis of current and emerging risks to health.

An undergraduate degree in Biological, Biomedical, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences and enrolment or acceptance in a PhD degree program at a recognised post-secondary institution.
Experience using aseptic/sterile techniques
Experience collecting and analysing samples from human placentas.
Experience interpreting and communicating scientific research results.
Experience using desktop computer software such as MS Office
Experience with microscopy and spectroscopic techniques to identify plastics.
