Work environment

Is this job right for you?

This job is not for everyone and it’s important to recognize that the work duties may be repetitive in nature. A main job function of this position is transcription, which requires an individual to wear a headset, listening and monitoring audio recordings (either pre recorded, or in real time), transcribing word for word what is said. Subsequently, the role does require individuals to be experienced in using computers, while having the ability to learn new software programs and technologies. Individuals should be able to type at least 40-words per minute, with less then a 5% error rate.

Individuals should be able to work independently, completing the assigned tasks within the designated timeframe. In listening to the audio recordings, individuals may be exposed to unsettling and/or graphic material.

This is an operational support role and subsequently, may require coverage 7-days a week, 365 days a year. Individuals should be prepared to work on a variable shift cycle, which may include days, nights and weekends. Depending on operational requirements, the schedule may change on short notice and shifts can range anywhere from 7.5 hours to 12-hours. Therefore, it is important individuals are flexible.

Individuals must be comfortable in testifying in a court of law and working overtime on short notice.

Intent of the process

The intent of this staffing process it to create an inventory of qualified candidates, which may be used to fill temporary vacancies of 6-months or less.

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.
