Duties

This position is responsible for supervising a team that performs day to day preventative maintenance and inspections, as well as repairs on a variety of mechanical building systems. The incumbent will allocate work to a team of multi-disciplinary facility workers and may be required to act as the liaison between AAFC and trades personnel. The incumbent will require the skill of using a variety of diagnostic equipment and to also have an understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) principles.

Work environment

As one of the 20 research sites in Canada, the Brandon Research & Development Centre is located in Brandon, Manitoba. The Brandon site is responsible for conducting various agricultural research studies for the Government of Canada. This position works in conjunction with a staff of five (5) other employees to support the research by ensuring that the facilities and infrastructure are maintained in accordance with regulated maintenance and codes as well by meeting the requirements of the research programs at the Brandon Research & Development Centre.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates at the GL-COI-10 group and level may be established from this process to staff similar positions within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada with various tenures, language requirements, work locations and security requirements. This may be shared with other government departments for hiring purposes.

EDUCATION/OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Possession of a valid applicable Provincial/Territorial Trade Certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate of qualification in one or more of the following: Plumbing, HVAC Technician, Gasfitter or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (Commercial), Automotive or Heavy Duty Mechanic, Millwright, Power Engineer.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience supervising a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience maintaining various building mechanical systems.
Experience inspecting building operating systems and structures.
Experience planning, scheduling and coordinating the work of service providers responsible for operations and maintenance activities that involve a number of trades.
Experience planning and coordinating construction projects.

As the Assistant Facilities Manager, there is a requirement to work on call responding to urgent facility operational problems on a 24 hours a day on a rotating schedule and to also respond in a timely manner, within 15 minutes of being called out to work.
