Duties

- Evaluate plants for resistance to canola diseases.
- Perform DNA extraction from plant and pathogens, and prepare libraries for high throughput DNA sequencing.
- Purify genotypes of plant pathogens.
- Develop segregating populations or breeding lines through plant tissue culture or conventional crosses.
- Perform data analysis using high performance computer and identify DNA markers.
- Prepare reports and manuscripts.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent is to fill on (1) temporary position in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in plant science, biology, or a related field.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience conducting experiments in plant pathology and genetics.
Experience developing molecular markers for marker-assisted selection.
Experience purifying genotypes of plant pathogens.

EDUCATION - ASSET:
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a master’s degree or PhD with specialization in plant pathology, plant science, biology, or a related field.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE - ASSET:
Experience purifying genotypes of plant pathogen though isolating protoplasts.
Experience working on clubroot.
