Work environment

The RCMP hires civilian employees in a wide variety of disciplines to support our police officers at detachments and offices. Civilian employees play a critical role in delivering services to our communities and supporting our local, provincial and national policing priorities.

The Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Intent of the process

This process may be used to staff various CR-05/CK-05, Detachment Services Assistant positions, with employment tenures, language and security requirements, conditions of employment and work locations throughout Nova Scotia, that will vary depending on the position being staffed.

Please note that an assignment appointment requires approval of your supervisor.

Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Recent* and significant experience** in providing administrative support in an office environment.

Experience in providing service to clients or the general public by telephone, in person, or in writing.

Experience in using a computer and a variety of computerized programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic mail systems.

Experience maintaining electronic and hard copy filing systems.

*Recent is having the experience acquired within last five (5) years.

**Significant experience is defined as experience associated with having directly performed the functions on a continuous bases, for a minimum of one (1) year.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.
