Intent of the process

This is an ANTICIPATORY process by which we will establish a list/pool of fully qualified candidates to staff elementary teacher aide positions for various periods both permanent and short term which will vary according to the need for teacher aides throughout the school year at Six Nations of the Grand River (Ohsweken, Ontario).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

ED1 - A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (See Note 1).

Note:
1.The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are: ◦A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
◦An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
a.Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b.Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the EU classification.

The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.

Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the EU classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

K1 - Knowledge of the current and innovative learning strategies for working with students with varying learning requirements in groups or on an individual basis.

COMPETENCIES:

CO1 - Indigenous cultural competence

Definition: Cultural competence requires developing knowledge, skills and attitudes for interacting with diverse people in respectful ways. It involves a continuous process of introspection, developing and practicing appropriate, relevant and sensitive practices. Working and learning together in a First Nations community requires cultural competency to succeed.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
AB1 - Ability to assist in the implementation of a prescribed program in both individual and group settings
AB2 - Ability to assist in evaluation and assessment of student needs
AB3 - Ability to communicate effectively orally
AB4 - Ability to communicate effectively in writing

PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

PS3 – Effective interpersonal skills

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate should demonstrate that they have as many of the asset qualifications as possible because these might be used to determine the priority of qualified candidates.

AED1 - Developmental Services Worker Diploma

AED2 - Native Special Education Assistant Diploma/Certificate

AED3 - Early Childhood Education Diploma

AED4 - Native Classroom Assistant Diploma/Certificate

AED5 - Mohawk or Cayuga Language Diploma

EXPERIENCE ASSETS:
AEX1 - Experience in teaching Indigenous children

AEX2 - Experience working in the Six Nations community or other First Nation community

AEX3 - Experience working with students in a Cayuga Immersion setting

AEX4 - Experience working with students who have special needs
