Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada, in the discipline of Mechanical or Electrical
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE *
• Recent* and significant* experience* in the application of provincial or federal building codes in Canada.
• Recent* and significant* experience* as a project manager for complex* real property* projects*.
• Recent* and significant* experience* in managing complex* renovation projects in base-building* systems.
• Recent* and significant* experience* in managing complex* projects for the design and construction of assets such as institutional or commercial buildings.
• Recent* and significant* experience* in managing contracts for consulting services and construction services.
• Recent* and significant* experience* in reporting on project quality, cost, and schedule.
*Definitions:
• experience is defined as work-related experience acquired in the identified field following graduation.
• recent defined as approximately the past 5 years from the closing date of this advertisement.
• significant is defined as the complexity and diversity of work which would normally be acquired over a period of approximately 7 years
• real property is defined as land, buildings, and anything attached to the land.
• base-building systems refers to a)mechanical (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Fire Protection, Refrigeration, Controls) and/or b)electrical (Power and distribution upgrades – site services and within buildings, Emergency back-up generator, Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), Lighting, Fire Alarm, Electronic Security, Public Address System.)
• complex is viewed in terms of risk. Candidates are expected to demonstrate experience in managing complex projects, with at least 2 risk factors, for example:
i. projects implemented in secure facilities (e.g. correctional facilities with restrictions for access by construction crew), high stakeholder and media interest, multiple stakeholders, stringent regulatory compliance requirements, heritage structures, remote locations, unknown site conditions
ii. projects for base-building installations/upgrades of major mechanical/electrical systems such as - for laboratories, HVAC, geothermal, photovoltaic or other alternate energy source, fire protection, security access, security surveillance, UPS, transformer or other high voltage systems, power distribution (workshop, office, warehouse, wharves, parking lot), demolition or decommissioning mech and electrical projects
PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification
Experience in federal project delivery subject to federal acts, regulations, codes and standards
Experience in the management of a Program of Real Property projects
Experience in project delivery methods such as Design Build or Construction Management at Risk
Experience in delivering specialty facilities projects such as construction of prisons, secure detachments, laboratories
Willing and able to travel
Willing and able to travel to project sites, as required
Willing and able to work overtime, as required
