TASKS
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is recognized worldwide for its support to the exploration of space. For example, CSA is contributing to Mars exploration with Mars Science Lab mission. As part of it’s program for the exploration of the Moon, CSA has launched a new initiative known as the Lunar Exploration Accelerator Program (LEAP). This program prepares Canada’s space sector for lunar exploration by offering a wide range of opportunities for Canadian science and technology activities in lunar orbit or on the Moon's surface. To help the development of this program, the student will be asked to carry out the following tasks:
- Literature review on planetary science topics (e.g. summary of potential lunar landing sites proposed by the international community, defining the state of knowledge for specific planetary science instruments, etc.);
- Work on the design of a GIS tool for lunar exploration;
- Develop an interactive spatial database for international sites used for terrestrial analogue initiatives; and
- site visits to collect analogue samples (potentially).
Depending on the workload required for the tasks listed above, the student will also be required to assist the Planetary and Space Astronomy Space Exploration Development group in managing information and operational activities such as:
- Sorting information resulting from study contracts, e.g., reports and other documents, using the CSA corporate information management (Livelink) web-based system. Basic scientific and technical understanding of the context of the reports will be essential.
- Assist in the logistics of planning and holding various meetings (e.g. prepare Power Point presentations).
- Research into a specific topic and prepare a summary of study reports and other documents.
- Other administrative tasks to support group activities as required.
