Duties

Reporting to the Editorial Services Supervisor, you will have to translate, from English into French, a diverse range of communication documents for internal and external publication: news releases, media lines, announcements, video scripts, social media messages, messages to employees, reports, etc. You will also occasionally revise documents translated by our external providers or edit documents written in French.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill 1 indeterminate position at the IS-03 level immediately, and to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill positions at the IS-04 level in the French Editorial Services with the Communications Team at Transport Canada. The pool of qualified candidates may be open to other departments, on a case-by-case basis.

ED: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in translation (from English into French) from a recognized postsecondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.

*At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education standard.

EXP1: Recent and significant* experience editing a variety of French texts intended for different audiences.

EXP2: Recent and significant* experience translating documents from English into French.

EXP3: Recent and significant* experience comparing texts translated from English into French.

**Recent experience means within the last three (3) years. Significant experience is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally associated with full-time performance of duties for a period of two (2) years or more.

EXP2: Recent and extensive** experience translating documents from English into French in a professional context with little or no supervision.

EXP3: Recent and extensive** experience comparing texts translated from English into French.

EXP4: Recent and extensive** experience advising clients on linguistic questions.

**Recent and extensive experience means experience acquired by carrying out a broad range of related activities in the field of work in question. This experience is normally acquired over a period of at least five (5) years during the past eight (8) years.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)

Member of a professional translation association or order (ex. OTTIAQ, ATIO).

EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience translating from English into French for a government organization.

AEX2: Experience working with an automated translation software.
