Intent of the process

Intent to fill one (1) indeterminate position in IQALUIT, NUNAVUT. Telework is not being considered for this position. Applicants are encouraged to apply only if they are willing and able to work in or relocate to Iqaluit.

A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff this position or similar positions or for future term, acting, assignment, secondment, deployment, or indeterminate opportunities.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

The minimum standard is:
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Note:
**Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
**Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
**At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Degree equivalency

Experience in repairing and maintaining wireless land mobile radio voice and data communications equipment.

Experience with electronic communications test equipment and test procedures.

Experience in report writing.

Experience in computer system architecture, software and/or operational practices in data processing.

Certificate or Diploma as an Electronic, Computer or Electrical Engineering Technologist

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science

Degree equivalency

Experience identifying IT procurement requirements and recommending solutions

Experience in developing user guides or training users on the utilization and operation of equipment

Experience with radio system equipment and RF (radio frequency)

Experience working in a Northern environment, particularly in Indigenous communities

Ability to speak Inuktitut

Persons self-identifying as Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement may be selected for appointment to fulfill organizational needs

Conditions of employment

Top Secret security clearance - RCMP Top Secret level security clearance

Willingness and ability to travel throughout the service area (Nunavut) for extended period of time as required, sometimes on short notice and often by small plane to remote sites.

Willingness and ability to work in areas exposed to inclement weather and occasional uncomfortable working locations.

Willingness and ability to climb ladders and to work at a height.

Willing and able to work overtime and on call shifts

Willingness and ability to lift and carry heavy tools and equipment (ex: minimum 50lbs).

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Willingness and ability to work in confined areas

Meet and maintain the medical profile standards established for the position and any additional medical requirements for isolated posts, in accordance with the National Joint Council Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive
