Duties

• Assists Groundskeeper in various work orders and projects
• Assists in Grounds maintenance services including cutting grass, raking, trimming trees, shovelling and snow removal
• Operation and maintenance of small riding equipment such as riding lawn mowers and garden tractors
• Operation of hand tools, such as shovels, rakes and hand saws
• Operation and maintenance of small motorized equipment such as push lawn mowers and weed whippers
• Provides physical labour at the Grounds maintenance sites

Intent of the process

The RCMP Depot Grounds Unit is looking for Seasonal Labourers to hire for summer casual employment (May to August).

NOTE: Casual appointments are excluded from the provisions of the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). This means casual appointments will not be eligible to apply to internal appointment processes. In addition, the PSEA specifies that the number of days worked as a casual worker cannot exceed 90 days in a calendar year within the same department.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Experience in operating various types of lawn maintenance equipment such as whipper snipper, push lawn mowers, hand rototillers, etc.

Experience using various hand held tools such as shovels, rakes, hand saws, pruners, gas powered hedge trimmers, etc.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience in operating small equipment such as riding lawn mowers, garden tractors and skidsteers

Experience in landscaping

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Willing and able to lift and carry objects (maximum of 25 kilograms/55 pounds)

Willing and able to work in varying weather conditions including; snow, rain, heat and cold.

Willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with safety rules

Willing and able to travel via commercial or government transportation services when required

Willing and able to work in uncomfortable positions and spaces, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, and to work in high places, such as ladders, scaffolds and/or power mobile equipment

Willing and able to attend all training as required

Willing and able to purchase and wear steel toe work boots and cold weather clothing (heavy jackets, toques, etc.).

Willing and able to work shift work including evenings and weekends

Willing and able to walk 10 km or more a day while carrying and operating self-propelled lawn mowers and weed whips

Possession of a valid Canadian Drivers' License equivalent to a Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License
