The intent of this process is to staff one (1) position located in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador. We also intend to create a pool of fully qualified candidates to be used to staff similar level positions within Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Newfoundland and Labrador. This process may be used to staff various tenures, including indeterminate, specified period, deployment, assignment, secondment and acting.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a related field*.
Successful completion of the Fishery Officer Career Progression Program (FOCPP), (http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/career-carriere/enf-loi/training-formation-eng.htm) OR an acceptable combination of education**, training and experience working in law enforcement.
Note: The Fishery Officer Career Progression Program (FOCPP) is an 18 weeks training program followed by 30 months of apprenticeship. *Experience in a related field of work:
- Renewable/Natural Resources and Habitat Management: Experience in activities pertaining to: Water Management, Forest Management, Wildlife Management, Fisheries Management, Habitat Management, Eco Systems Management and Environment Protection.
- Enforcement: Experience in enforcing legislation or by-laws (laying of tickets and/or charges, attending court) with a law enforcement organization or a security agency.
- Outdoor Field Services: Field experience in providing outdoor commercial services to fishers, hunters or eco-tourists, e.g. guiding services.
- Fishing Industry: Experience in commercial, aboriginal, aquaculture, Dockside/at sea monitor, or in a related field. (Does not include recreational fishing for personal use).
** Post-secondary education in a related field:
Law or by-law Enforcement / Police Science / Criminology / Law & Security / Fisheries / Aquaculture / Wildlife / Forestry / Natural Resources / Resource Management / Renewable Resources / Ecosystem Management / Marine Environmental / Environmental Science / Indigenous Studies / Biology / Agriculture / Geography.
EXPERIENCE:
-Experience in providing advice or recommendations on program strategies and/or priorities.
-Experience in evaluating and/or implementing aspects of a compliance or enforcement program.
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
-Experience in financial management
-Experience in major case management processes and procedures
-Experience in major incident management i.e. planning and responding re: protest activities, large illegal operations, civil disobedience, and emergency response
-Experience in analyzing, interpreting and the presentation of program data

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Reside within a 1 hour commuting distance (by road vehicle) from your headquarters.
-Candidates must be comfortable working/training on, in or near water. Candidates will be participating in training exercises that will require having their head/face immersed underwater.
Secret security clearance - CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
-Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice
-Ability to work evening and weekend shifts
OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
-Deployment to any part of the country, or assignment to all types of enforcement activities such as inland, coastal and offshore patrols, and/or forensic investigations and/or special operations
-Meet medical and psychological suitability standards.
-Possession of a valid driver’s license.
-A current standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.
-Carry and use firearms and other restricted and prohibited weapons.
-Meet DFO annual use of force recertification proficiency standards, including firearms.
-Wear a uniform and required protective equipment, as required.
-Work and/or travel at sea and in a variety of terrains and degrees of isolation for various periods of time in all weather conditions.
-Legal operation of vehicles/vessels.
