The candidate will support the scientific team during experimental surgeries to install a catheter in the portal vein and another in the carotid artery and to install a flow meter around the portal vein. The main objective of this project is to study intestinal fate and metabolism of macro and trace elements in pigs supplemented with various ratios of calcium and phosphorus and increasing levels of phytase. The candidate will be responsible for performing serial blood samples, laboratory analyses related to the measurement of zinc, copper and selenium in different samples and statistical analyses, interpreting results and writing papers.

Education:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in veterinary science.
Currently enrolled* in a PhD program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: Animal Science.
*Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.
Experience* in taking blood samples drawn from catheters.
Experience* in performing laboratory analyses, statistical analyses and in interpretation of scientific results.
Experience* in participating in scientific projects and writing scientific papers (with supporting publications).
*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
Be able to support the scientific team during surgeries.
Be able to work in contact with animals (pigs).
English or French
