Duties

Under the supervision of Dr. S. Shao and Dr. K. Warriner, the candidate will conduct research on 1) development of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to absorb antibiotics; 2) The test of the sorption behaviors of the MIPs including sorption kinetics, isotherms, effect of pH and ionic strength to determine the optimal condition to remove antibiotics from milk.

Work environment

The lab is located at both the Guelph Research and Development Centre – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Guelph, Ont) and Department of Food Science, University of Guelph. The work will be at lab scale. Work will include the involvement of synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers and the test of the absorption efficiency of the molecularly imprinted polymers. Appropriate training will be provided to create a safe work environment.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in a M.Sc. program at the University of Guelph or University of Waterloo with specialization in food chemical safety, polymer science, organic chemistry or a related field.

Note: Must be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date) and must be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in chromatography.
Experience* working in the area of analytical chemistry.
Experience* polymer synthesis.

*In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience and volunteer activities.
