Participate in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of building systems. Monitor and adjust control systems for optimal performance. Respond to equipment emergencies and provide troubleshooting support to identify and remedy problems. Carry out and assist in the development of the preventive and legislated maintenance program. Perform inspection and repair for a variety of equipment within various building trade disciplines.
As one of multiple Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centres, this Stationary machine mechanic position is based at the Saint-Hyacinthe Research and Development Centre.
The incumbent will work as part of the facilities management team to provide building maintenance which supports the delivery of scientific research by our clients.
The immediate need is to staff one (1) full-time permanent position
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements and security requirements within AAFC.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

EDUCATION:
A secondary diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience;

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possess a certificate of qualification as a stationary machine mechanic (SMM) category energy production class 4;
AND
a SMM qualification certificate for Class B refrigerated appliances issued by the province of Quebec.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems (air conditioning, ventilation, heating and plumbing).
Experience in building maintenance and repair.
Experience using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
EDUCATION (ASSET):
Possess a professional diploma in stationary machine mechanics from a recognized institution.
Possess a qualification certificate of stationary machine mechanic (SMM) category energy production class 3 issued by the province of Quebec or be in the process of completing it.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willingness to work from ladders and at heights and be able to do so.
Willingness to work in confined, cramped and/or enclosed spaces and be able to do so.

Reliability Status security clearance
Possession of a valid, class 5 QC driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
Ability and willingness to lift materials weighing up to 20 kg.
Ability and willingness to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, footwear and clothing.
Willingness to work on call, 24 hours a day, on a rotating schedule, and to intervene quickly (response to urgent problems related to the operation of the facilities within 30 minutes of request), and be able to do so.
Ability and willingness to work overtime, including occasional weekends.
