Screening for the OCC training positions occurs through testing. CritiCall is a computer program specifically designed to test the critical knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for success in the high‐stress dispatch environment.

Original proof of your education will be requested and must be provided during the selection process, in order to verify that candidates meet the education requirement. Candidates who are unable to provide proof that they meet this essential qualification as requested may be eliminated from the process. Also note, if the name on your education credentials does not match the name on your current photo identification, you will need to provide proof of your name change.

You must provide proof of your Canadian Citizenship. The original of one of the following documents must be provided for verification:

Work environment

A 911 Police Dispatcher is responsible for responding to both Police and Emergency 911 calls for service while dispatching RCMP and other emergency responders to incidents in their respective province. This requires a level of multi-tasking simultaneously on a computer with multiple screens/programs while responding to calls on a radio/phone of which some may be highly stressful "life or death" situations. A 911 Police Dispatcher is often exposed to emotionally charged clients and incidents which may be traumatic, violent and disturbing. A 911 Police Dispatcher work shift work (24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year).

Intent of the process

The intent of the process is to establish a pool of qualified applicants for the training program.

Upon initial appointment as a Police Dispatcher Trainee, continued employment is conditional upon successful completion of classroom training, field coaching, simulation exams and proficiency evaluations for call-taking and dispatching.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Candidates who are qualified at the TCO-01 level and who are selected for the Telecommunications Operator Training Program* will be appointed to a determinate (term) appointment at the TCO-01 group and level.

* The Training Program is comprised of in-class training followed by field coaching. The duration of the training program varies according to the location of the position.

Only the TCO-01 Trainees who successfully complete the training program* will be placed in a pool of qualified TCO-02 which may be used to appoint determinately (term) or indeterminately (permanent) at the TCO-02 group and level. The salary range for PO-TCO-02/LES-TO-02 is from $56,837 to $66,496 per annum.

The successful applicant will have to obtain an RCMP security clearance. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.
