Duties

The candidate will be a PhD student. The candidate will conduct statistical analyses using R statistical Software on ecological and contaminant data and publish research on the effects of contaminants on non-target biota. The specific tasks include: Organizing and collating research data; Analyzing data relevant to a terrestrial and aquatic exposures assessing the direct effects of pesticides on non-target wildlife; Analyzing data relevant to additional studies assessing the cumulative effects of plastic pollution, contaminants, parasites and diseases in wildlife; writing and preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-review journals.

Work environment

Data organization, collation, analyses and manuscript writing will be conducted remotely, at Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) National Wildlife Research Center located on the Carleton University campus, in the Ecosystem and Wildlife Health Laboratory, and at the Carleton University campus. The work is part of research programs to assess wildlife and ecosystem health. The candidate will be co-supervised by two ECCC Research Scientists and a Carleton University Professor that specialize in ecotoxicology and wildlife health.

Education:
Currently enrolled in PhD program in the Faculty of Science, Department of Biology at Carleton University.

Degree equivalency

Experiences:
Experience in computational statistics, analysis and programming;
Experience using R Statistical Software to analyze ecological and contaminant data, including multivariate statistical analyses, simulation modeling, and predictive machine learning models;
Experience in writing and collaborating on manuscripts for publication in scientific journals;
Experience in analytical reporting using R Markdown and advanced data visualization;
Experience with wildlife health research questions, formulating methods and preparing reports;
Experience with compiling literature reviews and annotated bibliographies.
