Duties

Participate in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of building systems. Monitor and adjust control systems for optimal performance. Respond to equipment emergencies and provide troubleshooting support to identify and remedy problems. Carry out and assist in the development of the preventive and legislated maintenance program. Perform inspection and repair for a variety of equipment within various building trade disciplines.

Work environment

As one of multiple Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centres, this position is based at the Saint-Hyacinthe (Québec) Research and Development Centre.

The incumbent will work as part of the facilities management team to provide building maintenance which supports the delivery of scientific research by our clients.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) full-time permanent position

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, linguistic requirements and security requirements within AAFC.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Valid Quebec or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in maintaining and repairing various commercial or institutional refrigeration systems.
Experience in operating and maintaining ultra-low freezers/fridges.

EDUCATION (ASSET):
A class 2 (SF-2) refrigeration system certificate issued by Emploi-Québec and/or a journeyman competency certificate issued by the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ).
A halocarbon (H) environmental qualification certificate issued by Emploi-Québec or the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ).

Be able and willing to work in variable weather conditions.
Be able and willing to work in a dirty, noisy, humid, hot, cold and/or wet environment.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid, class (5) (QC) driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
Ability and willingness to lift materials weighing up to 20 kg.
Willingness to work on call, 24 hours a day, on a rotating schedule, and to intervene quickly (response to urgent problems related to the operation of the facilities within 30 minutes of request), and be able to do so.
Willing to work overtime (including weekends), and be able to do so.
