Duties

Provision of leadership and professional advisory services, training oversight, and functional management for planning, developing and directing the delivery of social work services, including substance use treatment services, for Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) institutions, community sites and the regional treatment centre within a given region, in accordance with CSC and professional standards.

The Regional Clinical Practice Lead, Social Work will work in collaboration with other practice leads and disciplines including primary care physician lead, and psychiatrist lead.

All Regional Clinical Practice Leads, including the Regional Practice Lead, Social Work will collaborate with and support the professional practice needs of other health care professionals, both regulated and unregulated to ensure the inclusion of other disciplines and foster healthy and sustainable interdisciplinary teams.

Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

Registration as a Social Worker in a province or territory of Canada. (In order to be appointed, candidates must be registered in the province or territory where the position is being staffed.)

EXPERIENCE

Recent experience* in planning, implementing and evaluation of health interventions and/or programs in an interdisciplinary practice setting.

* 3 cumulative years within the last 5 years.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the mandate, priorities, legislation, policies, Commissioner's Directives, guidelines, accreditation standards in health care within the Correctional Service of Canada.

Knowledge of current and emerging health/education technologies, trends and best practices.

Knowledge of professional standards, ethical standards, resources, human rights and health.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a Master’s or doctoral degree in Social Work from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work and/or relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience in managing financial resources.

Experience in managing human resources.

Experience working in a correctional environment.

Experience in providing Social Work services to clients in mental health environment.

Experience in the provision of Social Work services to culturally diverse populations.

Experience providing Social Work services to vulnerable populations (e.g., cognitively impaired/brain-injured, geriatric, adults who are disadvantages or in conflict with the law, aboriginal people, etc.).

Experience establishing, developing and managing productive and cooperative partnerships with community-based services (i.e., community capacity building).
