The intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Edmonton (Alberta), Regina (Saskatchewan), Winnipeg (Manitoba), or Yellowknife (Northwest Territories).
A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada at PC-02 group and level with various tenures such as indeterminate, term, acting, assignment or secondment, and with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Education
•Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in aquatic ecology, toxicology or some other science relevant to the position.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience
•Experience in assessing scientific or technical documents related to environmental impacts on aquatic ecosystems (e.g. environmental impact studies, environmental characterization studies, site remediation plans or environmental monitoring studies).
•Experience in preparing and presenting scientific or technical information.
•Experience in participation in studies on aquatic ecosystems or environmental management programs; and in reviewing results of those studies or programs.
•Experience working on a team related to environmental protection.
Asset Education
•Post-graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in aquatic ecology, toxicology or some other science relevant to the position.

Knowledge
•Knowledge of key federal environmental protection legislation and policy (e.g. Fisheries Act and its regulations).
•Knowledge of the methods and approaches used to evaluate potential effects (biological, chemical and physical) of industrial or other activities on the aquatic environment (marine or freshwater).
•Knowledge of methods, including statistical analyses, used to design and conduct aquatic science studies.
•Knowledge of the biology and ecology of aquatic ecosystems and of the impacts of industrial effluents on these systems.
