The data specialist is responsible for:
- maintaining the Animal Market Information Service’s database (for example updating reference data tables, investigating sources of report failures, etc)
- Working with information technology teams to implement system updates
- Working with business and information teams to plan and implement improvements to data collection and reporting improvements
- Other duties to ensure quality and timely service as required.

The intent of this process is to staff a position on an indeterminate basis.

Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field.

EXPERIENCE
Experience identifying solutions to business needs using information technology tools.
Significant* and recent** experience working in an Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) enabled environment.
Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience producing, editing and analyzing statistical reports.
Experience preparing scripts to extract and combine data from databases using Structured Query Language (SQL) or another programming language.
*Significant is defined as the breadth and depth of experience normally acquired with the performance of duties in the workplace during a period of one (1) year or more.
**Recent is defined as having performed the duties within the last five (5) years.
