The intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Edmonton (Alberta), Regina (Saskatchewan), Winnipeg (Manitoba), or Yellowknife (Northwest Territories).
A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada at PC-03 group and level with various tenures such as indeterminate, term, acting, assignment or secondment, and with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Education
•Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in earth sciences, geochemistry, geology, or some other science relevant to the position.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience
•Experience in assessing scientific or technical documents related to the environmental impacts of mining projects (e.g. environmental impact studies, environmental characterization studies, site remediation plans or environmental monitoring studies).
•Experience preparing and presenting scientific or technical advice, briefings or recommendations on project effects or environmental protection programs.
•Experience in reviewing and interpreting characterization results of geologic materials in mining or infrastructure projects.
•Experience in providing technical advice related to mining (e.g. in the areas of metal leaching and acid rock drainage (ML/ARD), tailings and waste rock management, mine closure plans, and methods of characterization of geologic materials).
•Experience collaborating with technical multi-disciplinary teams related to the environmental protection.
Asset Education
•Post-graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in earth sciences, geochemistry, geology, or some other science relevant to the position.

Asset Experience
•Experience in participation in stakeholder groups with Indigenous landowners and governments on projects relating to the environment.
•Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.

Knowledge
•Knowledge of key federal environmental protection legislation and policy (e.g. Fisheries Act and its regulations).
•Knowledge of the characterization of geological materials to understand potential risk of environmental effects when these materials are exposed, moved, or modified.
•Knowledge of prediction, control and mitigation of release of metals/metalloids, and other parameters of concern from geologic materials.
