A Detachment Support Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.
The intent of this process is to staff one (1) permanent position in Elk Point, AB.
A qualified pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions on a term and/or permanent basis in Eastern Alberta District within the RCMP. The pool could be used to offer acting appointments, assignments, secondments or deployments.

• Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.
*Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.
• Experience providing services to internal and/or external clients over the phone, in person and/or in writing.
• Experience providing administrative support services including data entry, filing and preparing documents such as briefing notes and/or reports.
• Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience maintaining a law enforcement database such as CPIC and/or PROS.
• Experience liaising with court representatives or officials, or preparing court disclosure packages.
• Experience transcribing statements from audio files/recordings.
• Experience providing financial support services (services may include, but are not limited to, verifying and correcting financial claims, controlling and monitoring petty cash, preparing financial status reports, etc.).
• Experience working in a law enforcement and/or legal environment.
• Experience providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving and/or destroying data.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation.
• Willingness and ability to maintain a valid driver's license, or have personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.
• Willing and able to work shift work as required, which includes evenings and weekends.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
