To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, candidates must meet the following criteria:

-Be recognized as having full-time student status by the Canadian post-secondary academic institution at which you are currently enrolled, pending approval of acceptance, or in the process of submitting your application. (Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start date)

-Be the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located.

-Student must be enrolled at the University of Lethbridge. The funding for the student comes from a project funded by Results Driven Agriculture Research. Dr. Dmytro Yevtushenko, based at U of L, is a collaborator on the project and will be the student supervisor. Work done by the student will be in the Lethbridge area.

Duties

The successful candidate will split work between the laboratory, greenhouse and in the field. Duties include but are not limited to:

Preparing and testing potato seed for planting;
Collection of plant growth data and tissue samples;
Process plant tissue samples for analysis in the laboratory;
Collate and analyze collected data;
Protocol development and troubleshooting.

Work environment

The Lethbridge Research and Development Center (LeRDC) is located in Southern Alberta. The successful candidate will be working with the Potato Health research program based at LeRDC. The focus of the project will be on evaluating treatments to minimize the effects of severe weather events on potato production.

Education:
Currently enrolled/or willing to enrolled by the date of the appointment in a Master’s program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in:
• Agronomy;
• Agricultural Sciences;
• Plant Sciences;
• Biology;
• Bio-ecology Technology
• Bioscience Technology;
• Environmental Sciences;
• A related science program or other related fields.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in plant biology

*In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
