Duties

We are looking for individuals with strong analytical thinking, creative, strategic, research and writing skills to work on planning, leading and developing regional and national strategic advice and recommendations on research, development and technology transfer initiatives that contribute to the identification and implementation of science-related departmental/branch plans and priorities. The work consists of preparing and reviewing briefing materials, and initiating and maintaining effective networks of expertise within the Science and Technology Branch and across the department and with federal/provincial/ industry stakeholders to provide analyses and relevant advice for senior management. This position reports to the Director General for the Prairie Region.

Intent of the process

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field such as agriculture, environment and natural resources, life science, economics, sociology or statistics with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.*

*Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

• Experience developing strategic approaches in a complex environment and define optimal processes to achieve them.
• Experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management on program and policy issues.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams with diverse reporting relationships to optimize portfolio outcomes.
