Assessment accommodation

Duties

Regional lead, management and evaluation of the protection, promotion and enhancement of health of First Nations Communities south of 60 degrees through Environmental Public Health programs and services. The programs and services include; Communicable Disease Control; Drinking Water; Health and Housing; Food Safety; Solid Waste; Public Buildings; Emergency Preparedness and Response; Risk Assessment; Environmental Contaminants Research; Wastewater Disposal; and Pest Management; provision of assessment and advisory services to First Nations communities by working closely with community staff and leadership and other federal/provincial departments.

These structural changes will allow our government to work more effectively with Indigenous partners to provide services that improve people’s day-to-day quality of life. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some employees of Indigenous Services Canada are currently working remotely. The department is actively working on a flexible, phased approach for the safe return of employees to their usual workspaces. Therefore, this opportunity may initially be a remote working opportunity. When it is deemed safe to return to the workplace, the opportunity will be in an Indigenous Services Canada office located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
•Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field of physical science relevant to the work to be performed, such as biology or environmental science or an acceptable combination of education and/or experience relevant to the position being staffed.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
•Certification in Public Health Inspection in Canada by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors - CPHI(C) Designation.

EXPERIENCE:
•Recent* and significant** experience in working with First Nations on complex issues.
•Experience in providing advice to management.
•Experience in environmental health or public health program management.

*Recent: Within the last (5) years.
**Significant: Minimum (2) years consulting on complex matters approximately on a monthly basis.
