We are committed to providing an inclusive and barrier-free work environment, starting with the hiring process. If you need to be accommodated during any phase of the evaluation process, please use the Contact information below to request specialized accommodation. All information received in relation to accommodation will be kept confidential.
When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.
For screening and assessment purposes, all communications related to this selection process will be by email. Therefore, candidates must include a valid email address in their application. It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that this address is functional and that it accepts messages from unknown users (some email systems block these types of email) and frequently check their inbox and JUNK/SPAM folders. It is also the candidate's responsibility to ensure accurate information is provided and updated as required.
Candidates who have passed all stages of evaluation and who are selected must complete the Correctional Training Program (CTP), which includes two online training phases, and a 14 week in residence training phase at the CSC Training Academy in Québec or Kingston, ON.
ALLOWANCE FOR RECRUITS
Correctional Service of Canada recruits receive an allowance of $400/week, up to a maximum of $5,600 for 14 weeks, during Stage 3 of the Correctional Training Program. This allowance, paid bi-weekly, is in addition to the meal and hospitality fees already covered for recruits at this same stage of CTP.
Indigenous candidates may be eligible for an allowance for participation in CTP Stage 3 through a Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ISET) stakeholder. For more information on how to access training support dollars please scroll through the following website to access a service delivery organization at https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/programs/indigenous-skills-employment-training/service-delivery-organizations.html.
If you wish to reapply to a Correctional Officer I selection process, the retest period is 180 days from the date of elimination at either the written exam or interview/reference stage. There is also a retest period of two (2) years for the psychological assessment from the date of elimination. The psychological assessment for Correctional Officer I is also used for Primary Worker/Kimisinaw (women’s institutions) and Correctional Officer II Healing Lodge; as such the retest period would also apply to those selection processes.
You will not be assessed more than once in the same selection process.
With more than 19,000 employees, CSC plays a key role in contributing to public safety, working around the clock at our 43 correctional institutions, 91 parole offices and 14 community correctional centers across Canada. Join us to help change lives and protect Canadians!
Correctional Officers I are essential to fulfilling the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) mission of enhancing public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control.
CSC remains committed to developing and maintaining a strong, inclusive, and diverse workforce that not only reflects the Canadian population, but also the populations we serve. We don’t just accept diversity – we celebrate it! We are making targeted efforts to recruit and retain diverse employees. In fact, CSC is the largest employer of Indigenous peoples in the core public administration. We believe that our ability to deliver accessible and inclusive services is realized when we recognize and retain the most diverse range of thoughts, experiences, and skills. We work hard to create an environment where all perspectives and experiences are valued. We are committed to helping diverse talent thrive.
We encourage women (especially in non-traditional occupations), Indigenous peoples (Aboriginal peoples), persons with disabilities, and members of visible minority groups to apply and to self-declare themselves as part of one or more of the Employment Equity groups as selection may be limited to candidates belonging to one or more of these groups.
