Duties

The position of Manager of Forest Programs will be based at the Pacific Forestry Centre, and will lead work on forest management in the Pacific region. This includes management of federal lands in the region, working with Indigenous communities on forestry issues and forest policy in the Pacific region. This position also leads work on the forestry implications of conservation measures, such as setting aside land for species at risk habitat. This is a term position ending March 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension.

Work environment

The Pacific Forestry Centre is an internationally-recognized forest science
laboratory specializing in forest disturbances, economics, carbon science, National forest inventory, and remote sensing. A vibrant group of researchers, technical staff and administrative staff work to maintain a creative and stimulating work environment. The research centre is located in Victoria, a dynamic coastal city on southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia

Intent of the process

A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff with identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Graduation with a degree in forestry or wood science from a recognized post-secondary institution; or
Graduation with a degree in a related science from a recognized post-secondary institution combined with acceptable experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
EX1: Experience in providing complex technical forestry input for programs with government and/or non-governmental organizations.
EX2: Experience in providing science/policy analyses and advice to senior officials.
EX3: Experience in managing human resources.
EX4: Experience in timber supply analysis or experience in forest carbon budget analysis.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset Education:
Graduation with a Masters or PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field of study combined with experience.

Degree equivalency

Asset Qualifications:
Experience in consultations, negotiations and partnership development with Indigenous organizations.
Registered Professional Forester designation.
